Just my opinion as most of my posts are. The build up to the Cybertruck release seems like a calculated move of pure Marketing & Advertising genius.
I just read an article that said Tesla is cracking down on Cybertruck leaks it was published on August 18th 2023.
Funny that I didn't see anything before this date because there are hundreds of leaked photos & videos on the open Internet. Not only were there leaks and photos but clearly the car was spotted in public many times at high-traffic locations. The Cyberturck was even at fast food restaurant Drive-Throughs. I don't think the people given the opportunity to test drive were just hungry. To me, these seemed like opportunistic placements.
The cyber truck isn't for everyone. Many people find it off-putting to say it nice. You can even say the same thing for Elon Musk, not everyone is a raving fan.
There are two things that can't be denied.
1 The Cybertruck looks to be a game changer. Even if it is a complete failure it was extra motivation for the other truck manufacturers to jump into the electric vehicle race. I realize they would have jumped in anyway. It certainly seems like electric cars are the future but I definitely think the Cybertruck put the spotlight on the vehicle segment. It is showing that even pickup trucks can be electric and rugged.
2, people are interested in looking at this vehicle. they seem to love it or hate it. I really do think truck owners are brand loyal and this vehicle will test the bonds of devotion.
Again this is my opinion however it is backed up by Google. I did a quick Google trends search comparing various electric vehicles and what I found is in the graphic above.
