Potential changes for over-the-air (traditional) TV and possibly radio.
October 28, 2025, The FCC approved an accelerated transition to ATSC 3.0 by allowing broadcasters to set their own conversion schedules from ATSC 1.0 to ATSC 3.0.
This does not mean broadcasters will stop ATSC 1.0, it just means they have the ability to stop.Â
ATSC 3.0 is not backwards compatible. That means if TV stations in your area switch, viewers will have to buy new equipment, such as a new television or A converter box.Â
I don't know much about the new technology. From what I have read, it sounds cool and futuristic with higher-quality video and audio, and interactive features. The line between linear and digital just got blurrier.
October 2025, Tesla officially announced it would eliminate AM/FM radio in Model 3 and Model Y trims. I am not sure if others will follow, but my guess is they will.Â
This reminds me of my first car, a 1976 Capri. It only had an AM radio. I purchased and installed an FM converter so I could ditch my Walkman.
