The story that almost was not. How a last-minute decision end "Project Griffin" created two great companies; Netflix and Roku Inc.


December 2007, after 5 years in development Project Griffin, a first of a kind streaming box, was ready to launch. Price points were set, marketing and advertising were ready to roll and then the plug was pulled.


Reed Hastings knew that streaming would fundamentally change how Netflix delivered content to its customers. A few weeks before launch be He realized that if he owned the hardware (the box) then content and distribution could become a problem.


He spun off Project Griffin (the Netflix) to Anthony Wood the project lead and Wood then created Roku. Wish I was there to see it unfold :)


This decision created 2 Outstanding companies


I believe these two companies are instrumental in the Growth and Improvement on CTV | OTT
