Business lessons I learned from my dog

what my dog taught me about business

In business, relationships win. Trust wins. Reliability wins. And the people who consistently show up with positive energy and good intentions usually outperform. Simple lesson. Powerful results.

On Friday, May 8th, at 2pm, I lost my dog, Macy, after 14 years.

She took a piece of my heart with her.

But this is not a sad post.

In 2019, I wrote about the business lessons her sister Lucky taught me. Today I'm adding Macy's chapter.

𝗕𝗲 𝗛𝗮𝗽𝗽𝘆

Every morning was like the first time she'd ever seen me. Greet people that way. It changes the room.

𝗕𝗲 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲

A tiny piece of chicken changed her entire world. Never underestimate what genuine gratitude does for a client relationship.

𝗕𝗲 𝗖𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗼𝘂𝘀

She once watched bees for hours. I now invest the first hour of every day in learning. The results have been remarkable.

𝗕𝗲 𝗟𝗼𝘆𝗮𝗹

Macy was Velcro she never left my side. When I worked for a large corporation, my loyalty was split between my company and my clients. That tension was real, and clients felt it. Now 100% of my loyalty belongs to my clients. I feel like part of their team. There's a real difference.

𝗟𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗻 𝗗𝗲𝗲𝗽𝗹𝘆

She could hear the difference between the UPS truck and the mail carrier. She sensed a storm 15 minutes before the first raindrop. Imagine understanding your clients at that level.

𝗘𝗻𝗷𝗼𝘆 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗗𝗼

She played frisbee until she fell over. Pure joy. Do what you love you'll do it better and longer.

𝗡𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗽 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴

If you're not getting better, you're getting worse. I just launched Dynamic CTV | OTT Ads that update a TV commercial every 24 hours based on live inventory. If Macy could study bees for hours, I can master what's next.

Rest easy, Macy, and thank you for 14 years.
