Here is how "With All Due Respect" lands 80% of the time

With all due respect…” = brace yourself

"With all due respect"

Here is how this line lands

like many things in life it is the 80 20 rule.

People who like or accept it 20–30%

See it as a polite way to disagree

Common in formal settings (business, military, politics)

Interpreted literally: an attempt at respect before criticism

People who dislike it 70–80%

Hear it as passive-aggressive code for “you’re wrong”

Often viewed as insincere or condescending

Feels like a setup for disrespect rather than actual respect

What’s really going on:

In modern communication, the phrase has basically been hijacked by tone. Most people assume:

“With all due respect…” = brace yourself, disrespect incoming

So even if someone means it sincerely, it usually lands the opposite way.

Bottom line:

Technically polite

Practically risky

Emotionally… people don’t buy it anymore
